Home Lighting – Basic Lights

We have our dining room, living room, work office, kitchen, bedroom, etc. and we know that different rooms serve different purposes. Hence each room, having a purpose or multiple purposes requires a suited lighting solution. Lighting features need to perfectly correspond to the purpose, setting, and application of the room. 

Lighting at home is designed to illuminate various interior spaces as per the functional and aesthetic requirements. Lighting the interior spaces include planning the layout of lights, selection of different light fixtures and the type of lights.

For home interior design, the lighting system is designed as a layered system. Interior spaces are illuminated using combination of different type of lights & each light has its own distinctive feature.

The home lighting is a science as well as art. The science is based on fundamental load design, whereas, the element of art provides artistic touch to lights which used to illuminate objects & spaces.

In general, there are four primary types of lighting, each category being specifically tailored and created to serve its unique purpose and accomplish specific needs.

Ambient Lighting

General lighting, or mostly known as “ambient” lighting is made for a single purpose, to provide you with uniform levels of illumination over the entire space completely independently from other lighting sources.

Task Lighting

The task lights are used for performing various tasks. Whether you are about to indulge engage in productive computer work, enjoy cooking a delicious meal or simply sit back and relax with a good book, nothing will aid you better as task lighting. 

Fixtures that Provide Task Lighting: 

  • Desk lamps or portable lamps
  • Undercabinate lights
  • Downlights or directional gimbal recessed fixtures
  • Pendant lights

·       Accent Lighting

It is referred as specialty lighting and used for illuminating objects. Accent lights used for achieving a specific desired effect by focusing on certain points of interest, highlighting a certain feature or decoration focal point such as a beautiful collection, or a certain unique piece of art, accent lighting is the right option. 

These have a higher output and narrower beam angle to focus the light only where required. This is a requirement to create a noticeable contrast with the ambient lighting that will guide your gaze where it must go.

  • Directional recessed fixture or downlight

Decorative Lighting

Decorative fixtures are often meant to look attractive rather than provide much useful light. There are a few things that can make a statement or set a mood quite as much as a quality chandelier or floor lamp.

  • Wall Sconces
  • Table & Floor Lamp
  • Ceiling Fans with Light Kits
